Avalanche warning for region Indre Fjordane Monday 30.12.2019

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Published:
Rising temperatures and rain will give risk of natural wet slab avalanches. Avoid areas with fresh windslabs in the higher areas.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 29. December 2019

Mountain weather

Sunday 29. December 2019

50 mm precipitation, up to 80 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest. -2 °C to 5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 30. December 2019

35 mm precipitation, up to 60 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the evening. -6 °C to 2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mykje ny nedbør og sterk vind frå vest vil gje stor snøtransport over 800 moh.
